Pixxel is a space data company building a health monitor for our planet. We are doing that by deploying a constellation of some of the world's most advanced earth imaging satellites in lower earth orbit and an analytics platform (on ground) with tools that enable easy application of this data across a multitude of sectors. Our fully deployed constellation will be capable of beaming down daily imagery of any place on earth.

This role will contribute towards the development of Mission Design Software and Ground Segment Software that will be responsible for designing, analysing, monitoring, controlling and coordinating activities of our satellite constellation.   1. Develop and maintain optimization framework (encompassing objective functions, constraints, etc.) interfacing with other in-house tools to carry out trade studies relating to
    1. Constellation design optimization
    2. Image acquisition schedule optimization to optimize the revenue generation capability of Pixxel’s satellite constellation
  2. Collaborate with business development and other satellite subsystems to effectively understand, collate and translate requirements into design specifications
  3. Implement design specifications into modular, scalable and maintainable code
  4. Take end-to-end ownership of the software development from design through implementation, testing and deployment

Basic Qualification:

  1. B.Tech / B.E / MS  in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Computer Science or equivalent 
  2. Experience: 2+ years of relevant work experience (optimization, statistics or any related mathematical domain)
  3. Knowledgeable in numerical optimization theory and techniques. Having experience of at least one (preferably multiple) mathematical optimization fields such as convex optimization, integer programming, dynamic programming and Heuristics (genetic algorithms)
  4. Proficiency in one or multiple MDO libraries/software such as openMDAO, modeFrontier, Pymoo, DEAP etc
  5. Strong programming skills in at least one high level programming language (Python/Javascript/Java preferred)
  6. Ability to understand, break down, and solve complex problems independently

Nice-To-Have Skills:

  1. Mission design and orbit simulation experience using software tools (STK, FreeFlyer, Orekit, GMAT etc.) or custom software is preferred
  2. Good communications skills, ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  3. Experience with Deep Reinforcement Learning
  4. Knowledge of Development tools
    1. Git and Version control (with Gitlab/Github)
    2. Jira
  5. Knowledge or experience in any of the following would be a plus
    1. Code parallelisation
    2. Unit tests, CI
